Assisting families with empowering knowledge; Creating confident choices, and enlightened birth experiences

Kangaroo Care in the NICU

I had the absolute honor of holding this little man skin to skin not to long after his birth. He was born at 28 weeks and spent 24 days in the NICU and 62 days in the special care nursery.

My Family at the 2017 Buddy Walk

I found out 4 days after my second was born that he has Down Syndrome. I am so thankful to our local community and for fundraising events such as the buddy walk that we can all participate in together!

Postpartum Doula-ing

Yes! I would love to hold your newborn so you can eat, sleep, shower, pump, nap or anything you need to do in your home to help you feel like you. Taking time for yourself is an important part of healthy parenting.

You already have a wonderful and competent OB, Midwife, partner, and/or family support, so WHY do you need a Doula?
As your Doula, I will provide 24/7 on call support starting at 37 weeks as well as continuous and personalized labor support from early contractions until just after your baby is born. I support you with empowering evidence-based knowledge throughout the birthing process, helping you and your family know and understand your options so that you can advocate for your needs and wants.

In both home and in the hospital, your OB or Midwife is there to support you on a clinical level. They will not offer continuous support from the beginning of labor, but rather checking in regularly and in attendance for the actual birth. The Labor and Delivery Nurses are amazing, but are typically moving from room to room offering support to multiple families at once. It is also common in a hospital setting, that both the OB and nursing staff who are there upon your arrival are not the same support people who are there when your baby is born.

I have knowledge and experience with birth that typically loved ones do not have. I can help everyone feel comfortable in their supportive roles. I am not here to take over for your partner, but rather be part of your team!

So then, what is a POSTPARTUM DOULA and why do I want one?

As your Postpartum Doula I will arrive at your home a few days after birth. It is an emotional and overwhelming time for everyone. As a trained professional I can assist you and your family in learning newborn care (nail clipping, bathing, swaddling...), provide breastfeeding and/or bottle feeding support, babywearing options, as well as reclaiming some household organization. I will also hold your newborn while you shower, eat, rest and rejuvenate. There are so many questions, doubts, and uncertainties in those beginning stages. I can help you and your partner find confidence in your new parenting role as well as be empowered by your choices and decisions.
