 To become a DONA certified Birth Doula, I completed the following training: 

  • Attendance at a DONA approved birth doula workshop 

  • Current Membership in DONA International 

  • Agree to and sign the DONA International Birth Doula Code of Ethics and the DONA International Birth Doula Standards of Practice 

  •  Breastfeeding education- I became a Certified Lactation Counselor through Healthy Children. This is a 5 day, 45 hour course ending in an exam in order to obtain the certification

  • Basic childbirth education class

  • Completion of 10 required texts from the Birth Doula Required Reading List.

  • Provide birth doula labor support to several clients and their families. Choose three (3) support experiencesfor certification that meet requirements.

  • Provide thorough documentation of birth support experiences including evaluations of services by health care providers and birthing parent.

  • Minimum attendance in one approved doula business webinars

  • Creation of Local Area Resource List (minimum of 45 resources)

  • Essay on the Value and Purpose of Labor Support

  • Written Reference from Perinatal Health Professionals and Clients
